2013 Iowa FFA Leadership Conference

South Central Calhoun FFA

The 85th Iowa FFA Leadership Conference was held on April 22nd and 23rd in Ames, Iowa.

Approximately 5,000 student FFA members, advisers, parents, sponsors, and guests attended the conference to celebrate the achievements of FFA across the state of Iowa during the year.

FC sponsored the Emerging Agriculture Proficiency Award and had a booth at the Career Show.

We support FFA throughout the year and throughout the state and it was great to meet so many wonderful FFA members. We look forward to our continued support of this organization.

Ag Day is March 19, 2013
National Ag Day is March 19, 2013.

It is a day to recognize and celebrate the abundance provided by agriculture. Every year producers, agricultural associations, corporations, universities, government agencies and other organizations join together to recognize and celebrate the contributions of agriculture.

FC would like to recognize and thank all of our agriculture producer owners here in Iowa, local FFA clubs and anyone in the food supply chain that is helping to feed the 7 billion people on this planet. Thank you!

National FFA Week

National FFA Week is
Feb 16-23, 2013
FFA Week gives members a chance to educate the public about agriculture. During the week, chapters host teacher appreciation breakfasts, conduct "Ag Olympics" competitions, speak to the public about agriculture, volunteer for community service projects and more.
The week of George Washington’s birthday was designated as National FFA Week in 1947 at a National FFA Board of Directors meeting. FFA Week always runs from Saturday to Saturday, and encompasses February 22, Washington’s birthday.
Did you know: There are 557,318 FFA members in grades seven through 12 who belong to one of 7,498 local FFA chapters throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands?

FC proudly sponsors and supports many FFA activities. Here is an overview of just some of the FFA programs FC supported in 2012.

FARMERS COOPERATIVE COMPANY (FC) SUPPORTS LOCAL FFA CHAPTERS WITH A DONATIONS TOWARD EDUCATION ENRICHMENT

The “Education Enrichment Program” was developed after an FFA instructor in central Iowa asked FC for a donation to replace textbooks that were over 20 years old. This program has been developed by FC to assist the FFA Chapters in its trade territory with funding for agriculture educational items for the classroom. FC has committed $15,000 for this program to be used toward items such as computers, textbooks, and equipment. Each chapter receives funds based on a student count provided by the Iowa FFA.
According to FC CEO, Jim Chism, “We at FC are honored to assist in the development of learning opportunities for America’s next generation famers and agribusiness people. Feeding the world over the next several decades will be a challenging, yet rewarding task. Our area FFA Chapters are helping to prepare our youth to take advantage of opportunities that agriculture will present.”
