The markets started the overnight session off weaker last night and never looked back thanks to better than expected crop ratings and large production estimates from well-followed private companies (FC Stone was out yesterday, Allendale was out already this morning and I believe Informa will be out later this morning).

The first little frost/freeze scare of the season is popping up this morning, but it doesn’t look to be a major one, NOAA is showing below normal temps for the Northern Plains and the Great Lakes through Sep 15th but it doesn’t look like U.S. row crops will see much for damage.  Frost is the last threat against what is widely considered to be a record corn/soybean crop this year.

Generally speaking look for weaker markets today as the trade deals with this large crop that somehow has improving conditions!  The idea that “big crops get bigger” will likely weigh on this market as we inch towards harvest.

Opening Calls
Corn down 2 to 4 cents
Soybeans down 5 to 7 cents

The markets are under pressure this morning after rains slipped further east than expected (into northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin) and crop ratings (in soybeans in particular) were better than expected last night.  What also has the market leaning bearish are the production estimates being released from different private companies.  Yesterday we had FCStone come out with a 172.4 bpa yield for the US, which pencils out to a 14.455 billion bushel crop (fyi that is big).  Informa will be out today with their numbers – if they also show a big crop, corn and beans could slip lower once again.

Opening Calls
Corn 3 to 4 cents lower
Soybeans 15 to 20 cents lower

Have a great day!

Good morning!

Our markets are under pressure this morning after trading mostly weaker all night long.  Outside markets are currently a bearish input with the dollar index sharply higher.

Yesterday afternoon we had a private company (FCStone) come out with their guess on next Friday’s S&D report.  They bumped their U.S. bean yield guesses up quite a bit which maybe caused some of this weakness overnight.  It is hard to put much stock in these guesses, every private company with time on their hands will come out with a number.  Informa’s is the most widely respected number and they release theirs later this morning.  The important thing to watch for in all of this may be the trends -- we will get to see quite a few private estimates in the next few days, at the very end we may be able to form an opinion...  Of course every one of those estimates will be thrown out the window when the USDA releases their numbers at 7:30am on Nov 9th

The USDA did release their weekly export sales numbers this morning, showing continued big bean sales (friendly) while corn numbers were just what we expected: poor.

Currently
Corn is down 2 to 4 cents
Soybeans are down 9 to 12 cents
